Literacy across learning: Information and Critical Literacy Skills CPD for early and first level

Introduction

The project aim was to create a quality CPD Information Literacy resources pack for Primary 1, 2 and 3 teachers providing / identifying:

  • background information on Information Literacy
  • learning and teaching approaches
  • supporting resources

The project involved identifying information literacy skills and information literacy opportunities within Curriculum for Excellence experiences and outcomes specifically at early and first levels (Primary 1, 2 and 3). Identifying supporting resources and how primary schools were engaging with information and critical literacy and what learning and teaching approaches they were using.

This work was inspired by the ‘Real and Relevant - Information Literacy Skills for the 21st Century Learner’ work aimed at upper primary/early secondary stages which reflected the purposes and principles of Curriculum for Excellence as well as linking with specific outcomes from the Literacy and English framework. The output from this work was a ‘Real and Relevant’ one full day’s in-service training including a guide to Information and critical Literacy skills for second – third level learners.
