A Global Media and Information Literacy Youth Hackathon will take place in Global MIL week 24 – 26 October 2018

Deadline for registration is 21 October 2018. This is aimed at young people so please alert any young people you know or work with.

Young people can participate online, or in person if they can afford to get away to Riga. The options are: "Online: work with your team on Facebook and submit a video presentation of your final pitch." OR "Offline: come join us in Riga and work with your team on-site."

The hackathon is coordinated by DesignEDly and Global Student Square, in cooperation with University of Latvia, Vytautas Magnus University, and University of Tampere, with the support of UNESCO and MiSK Foundation, and in the framework of Global MIL Week 2018.

CILIP Information Literacy Group events for Global Media Info Literacy Week

 As part of UNESCO's Global Media and Information Literacy Week (24 – 31 October 2018), CILIP ILG is coordinating three events with Library and Information departments at three UK universities.

With free events taking place in London, Manchester and one led by IL CoP member, Jacqueline Geekie in Aberdeen, please join in for networking, lively discussions of the new CILIP Information Literacy definition and a range of talks, highlighting emerging directions for IL research and practice in a range of contexts.

The European Conference for Information Literacy (ECIL) is being held in Oulu, Finland this year. Monday 24^th – Thursday 27^th September.

Here’s the conference agenda. You’ll see there are a great variety of sessions, covering the main themes of health, education, research and libraries.

As far as I know only one of our IL CoP members, John Crawford, has made it to this remote part of Finland. A lot of very interesting tweeting happening on Twitter #ECIL2018 until we hear back from John.

Supporting digital inclusion solutions for young people, with the Carnegie UK Trust.

As part of the BBC's Digital Cities Week Glasgow, the Carnegie UK Trust is hosting an interactive, user focused event on the theme of digital skills and inclusion for vulnerable young people. Enthusiastic participants from any background are welcome to come and discuss, debate and create tailored solutions for those often overlooked as ‘digital natives’.

The afternoon will provide opportunities to share ideas, examine the challenges, look for creative opportunities and test us all to ‘widen the net’. We’ll also be sharing insights from Carnegie UK’s current project #NotWithoutMe, and looking for your input to design the next steps. Please find attached a full version of the agenda which includes lightening talks, active discussion groups and innovative design sessions.
